Business Continuity Summary & Disclosure
USI Consulting Group is providing this document to inform
you of its ability to remain operational in the face
of disruptive events or emergencies. These plans and
procedures ensure the safety and integrity of our clients'
information and programs. They also describe actions,
responsibilities and facilities necessary to continue
operations in the event of a disruption.
The extent and timing of a disruption is unpredictable.
USI Consulting Group believes that our plans and procedures
are reasonable and effective. In general, we expect
to remain operational after, or during a disruptive
event. We expect to be operational within 24 hours of
the initial disruption. It is expected that we will
be operating at some level of reduced capacity and capability
for the duration of the disruption. We strive to have
no impact on critical, time sensitive transactions of
our clients or their plan participants. We review our
plans periodically as operations change and annually
as a matter of operations.
Locations
The USI Consulting Group Business Continuity Plan (i.e.
the Plan) address needs of USI Consulting Groups primary
business locations:
95 Glastonbury Blvd., Glastonbury, CT
630 Third Avenue., New York, NY
900 South Gay St., Knoxville, TN
Communication
In the event of a business disruption, our clients will
be notified via email and /or telephone regarding the
extent of the disruption and guidance on interim procedures
and contact information. Our web sites, www.usi.biz
and www.usicg.com, will carry updates and interim contact
information.
Internal and external communications are critical to
the guiding of staff and clients on the extent of a
disruption and the initiation of recovery steps. The
Plan provides contact information and protocols for
all staff and clients. The Plan anticipates telephone
calls, email, USPS mail, and Special Delivery mail and
has prescribed actions to accommodate day-to-day request
and communications.
Data Storage
The Plan prescribes back-up and storage procedures
for each office. Paper files are archived and retained
off-site according to the needs of each office. Archive
and retrieval procedures clearly define responsibilities.
Indexes and retrieval-request systems are stored redundantly
and/or available from the vendor.
Systems and data supporting mission critical operations
have been identified. Tape back-ups of this electronic
data and these systems are performed daily and regularly
stored off-site. Retention of off-site stored tapes
conforms to the needs of each office. In many cases,
these needs are prescribed by a regulatory body.
In the event of a disaster, the Plan clearly outlines
procedures, responsibilities, systems, forms, and contact
information for retrieval of files and tapes.
Recovery/Relocation
The primary recovery site for all USI Consulting Group
offices is the USI Holdings Conference Center located
on the campus of our corporate headquarters in Briarcliff
Manor, NY. This facility performs no role or any operational
activities for any USI Consulting Group locations. This
facility is fully networked with access to all USI locations.
On a day-to-day basis, the Conference Center provides
typical meeting and lodging functions. It was developed
with the expectation that it would serve as a relocation
site for other USI offices during a disaster. The Conference
Center provides capacity for staff and equipment. It
maintains an inventory of computers and telephones for
recovery needs.
USI Consulting Group uses the USI Corporate network
operated from the Philadelphia, PA and Stockton, CA
data centers. Recovery is confined to data and applications.
The Conference Center maintains sufficient capacity
to recover data and applications as prescribed in the
Plan.
USI Consulting Group adheres to all USI Information
Technology Policies and Procedures. This ensures no
media or format conflicts when recovering from back-ups.
Each application for recovery is identified and discrete
recovery instructions developed. Sequence instructions
and estimated timeframes provided describe the recovery
process.
Testing
Testing is a critical facet of the Plan. Individual
components and coordinated mock-disruptions are formally
tested, and results documented. Certain data recovery
and restoration procedures occur during the course of
business which further validates recovery capabilities.
